THE SLUMBER OF REASON (EL SUEÑO DE LA RAZON) is the Latina Dance Project’s — Licia Perea, Juanita Suarez, Eva Tessler and Jose Garcia Davis — new dance theater piece. The creative springboard for this work is Spanish painter Francisco de Goya’s prints, “Los Caprichos.” With a stark intensity unprecedented in the history of art, these prints convey the contradictions of a historical period when religious fundamentalism and paranoia prevailed over reason. They are joined by acclaimed actor/director Tim Perez (Vancouver, BC), composer Wes Hambright, video by Jose Garcia Davis and costumes by Susie Cox (Dallas, TX).
